Sacred Land - Under Foot or Under Threat?

Whether it be a high profile site like Stonehenge or the Hill of Tara, the excavated remains of Silbury Hill, the far off stones of a Scottish Island, the greatest triple henge monument in Yorkshire at Thornborough.  All, it appears, are easy prey to the developer and under a threat ranging from well intentioned protection to wanton destruction.

The Paradox

On one hand, sites like Stonehenge receive the undivided attention of the press and public when it is under the threat of very development that seeks to protect it! There is bluster and outcry, a wailing of protest, then there is a public inquiry that reaches an equitable decision for the way forward.  Meanwhile, the attention heaped upon this worthy monument means that others with less reputation become the focus for developers.  Whole swathes of our landscape comes under threat from quarries, or housing, or further road developments.

The Answer?

Perhaps there is no single answer, an all powerful panacea, to the situation.

If nothing else, there may only be questions.  How? Why? Where? Who? When?

But if nobody asks the questions, then there will be no answers but wholesale destruction!

The Purpose

This site, like many others that have grown over the last few years, seeks to ask the questions that should be asked.  Do we really need to sacrifice our very heritage, the land of our ancient ancestors and the secrets that it holds, for an easy profit?  Do we really need to lose those things that our parents would wish to hand on to their children?  And what of our own children, what do we leave for them as a heritage?

When two (or a few) become one

Strength in numbers or voices in unison, another purpose of this web site is to promote all the other sites that are campaigning for the protection of Sacred Land.  If you've got news, let us put it on these web pages.  If you've got a site, let us know so that we can set up reciprocal links (that'll help to get us both up in the search engine rankings and help to spread the word to a wider audience).
